Production
The basic concept of the video was this: once it gets going, there's no turning back. I wanted the images to have the same kind of condensed energy the song has, with a quality that makes you want to see it again, and again, just because you didnt take in enough of that cosmic fine dust the first time.
As a result, every chapter in the song is represented by a room or corridor in the spaceship, creating the basis for a continuously changing picture. How that is connected to the song's structure, is illustrated in the nifty schematic below.

We had little under five weeks to cover a tremendous amount of work. An animatic was made in the first few days, along with the character designs to get going on the character animation - which was obviously one of the most intense parts. While the pencil tests were being made, I went about building the sets in 3d, create layouts and textures and design 2d backgrounds. Cleaned up animation would come in as soon as it was done - and it was done on the go - , which made it possible to create almost-final composits at a early stage in production. That really helped taking some of the pressure off at the end. Taking pressure off ends is a good thing.
